Adrian's Homecoming | Military Homecoming Shoot
Military deployments aren’t commonplace for most couples, but for others, it’s something they know all too well. I didn’t grow up around the military, and other than knowing of its obvious difficulties, I’d never really given any critical thought to what deployment looked like. Up until I met my husband (an Army Officer), I didn’t expect it to be something I’d ever have to familiarize myself with.
This, of course, has all changed. I know that at some point, deployment will likely be our reality. It’s not something I like to think about. It hurts to imagine months on end without my husband and the inevitable risk that comes with deployment. But, there’s comfort in knowing I’m not alone here.
Needless to say, this shoot hit home for me. Cathy had been without her husband for nine months while he was on the ground in Afghanistan - commendable accomplishments on both ends. They’re young, like my husband and myself. Married for just under two years, and already having gone through such a challenge is applaudable.
I waited with Cathy for her husband to make his way off the plane and into the building. Her face, when she saw him for the first time was perfect. The way they embraced for the first time in nine months was perfect. The evident strength of their love that got them this deployment - perfect.
It was an honor to photograph Adrian’s homecoming and share such a special and intimate moment with these two. Thank you to Adrian for his service, and to Cathy, for giving me the hope and strength I’ll need when it’s our turn.
